        Since adopting Aerial from the
        North Shore Animal Shelter,
I've also been a faithful supporter.
Over the years, I've sponsored four dogs,
from the North Shore Animal League.

        Scamp, Clinton, Nellie & Silky,
have been adopted by loving families.

I am, and was, sponser to Mona, Oreo and Sixpence.
On August 6, 2001, I received the wonderful news
from NSAL that Oreo had been adopted.

        Oreo

Oreo, a young pointer mix, requires frequent doses of medication to make her epileptic seizures occur less frequently.

There is no cure, so Oreo will need medication for the rest of her life. Her alsomst constant care will make it difficult for North Shore to get her adopted.

In the meantime, myself and other patrons contribute to her care and the North Shore Animal League staff will care for her, giving her the love and attention she desperately needs.

The last update I received on Oreo (February 29, 2001) stated that this sweet and loving dog is responding well to her medication and that Oreo enjoys all the attention she receives. The North Shore staff is hopeful that one day a kind and loving family will take Oreo home.

Mona and Oreo are in my prayers daily.

On August 6, 2001, I received word from
        North Shore Animal League that
after 2 years in their loving environment and care
        little Oreo had been adopted.

The letter stated that since Oreo's adoption :
"We've (NSAL) checked in frequently and she has been
seizure free the entire time! Oreo has been
        wandering around chosing her favorite
spots to doze and when the best time is to
        settle in with her "Mom".

We always knew it would take a special person
to find a place in their home and heart
for a dog with a demanding health issue
        like epilepsy."
        NSAL

        Webmistress Note:
I am just thrilled that this beautiful little dog
now has a home of her own. As for Oreo's new Mom
a heartfelt thank you for being that special
        person that Oreo needs.

        God Bless Oreo
        and her new family!

Mona is an adult shepherd mix. She came to the North Shore Animal League's Medical Center with a litter of six puppies, all of whom have been adopted into loving homes.

Mona had a tumor and she endured chemotherapy. The good news is Mona's cancer is cured. Mona has had little human contact all her life, so she keeps her distance from from people. Mona, however, is very sweet and not in the least aggressive.

The North Shore staff works with Mona daily, and the latest update (February 29, 2001) stated:

"Although Mona's condition has not progressed as much as we would
have hoped, we can appreciate how much she has improved since
she came to us. She has completed all the goals set for her, by our
Pet Behavior staff. She knows her commands, such as "sit", "stay",
"heel" and "leave it". She walks on a leash and she can now spend
time with other dogs. Given the choice, she would still rather not
have any human inteaction but she does seem
        less fearful of people today."

        Update!!!

        August 6, 2001
        Mona is doing just great.
She is welcoming attention and compansionship
from people and is slowly becoming more socialized.
These are great steps for Mona and
each step, no matter how big or small
is wonderful. Hopefully, she will find
        a special person or family
that will open their heart and home to
this sweet, wonderful dog who is so
ready to give so much love.
        God Bless you Mona!

        Introducing...
        Sixpence

On August 6, 2001, the very day I read the fantastic news of Oreo's adoption, I requested Sixpence to sponsor. What follows is the Sixpence's bio.

"Sixpence is a puppy who was born with
physical deformaties in all 4 legs.

Although he manages to get around,
he will need extensive physical therapy
        for his undersized limbs.

Due to the rigious and ongoing demands of his condition,
he will be in the foster care home of
        NSAL's Senior Foster Care Manager.

As Sixpence grows, the changes in his frame
will be unpredictable. This could cause any
number of problems. We'll have to wait and see."
        NSAL
