Grand Knight’s Message

December, 2000

Dear Brother Knights:

I am continually gratified and amazed each month by the dedication I see from our members in volunteering their time for the good of their fellow man. This was very evident than at the "All-You–Can-Eat" Spaghetti Supper we recently held to support the St. Andrew Respect Life League. Special thanks go to chairman (and chief cook) Tom D’Errico, Don Boyle, Gary Rubin, Mike Bagnullo, Cliff Robbins, Dennis Klein, Art Doloresco, Abe Kassis and Mike Nassr.

Additionally, I am proud to announce that the St. Andrew First Degree Team was certified by District Deputy George Novac. Great Work Guys!

In attending the rehearsals of the First Degree Team, I was struck by the profound words given to candidates as they enter Knighthood, words that bear repeating here. In the Deputy Grand Knight’s charge he says: "Then know, candidates, the basic principle of our Order, Charity, the greatest of all virtues, and the crowning glory of a Christian life…It is that priceless gift placed by God in the human soul to measure man’s allegiance to his Creator…Where there is plenty, charity is a duty, not a courtesy."

Brothers, we need to burn that last sentence into our minds and hearts. Most, if not all, of us have more than enough. We need to pick up the lesson of the First Degree and expand our charitable activities. We can put this into practice as we enter the Advent season. Charitable endeavors are heightened during this season and we, as Knights of Columbus, should be at the forefront of these efforts. Look to your fellow Knights who have put Charity into practice. Use their example. "What you do for the least of my brethren, you do for me."

I wish you and your families a healthy, happy and peaceful Christmas.

Vivat Jesu,

Dave Capano

INCOME PROTECTION

The first purpose stated in the Charter of the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS is to render financial aid to its members, their families and beneficiaries. In order to fulfill this objective, the Order has worked to provide a way. Here is one example:

Recently a Brother Knight with a $25,000 KofC insurance policy died. Along with the sympathy of relatives and friends came the question: had he provided for his loved ones.

Thankfully, he had. His widow received an immediate payment of $25,000 in cash for final expenses and to pay bills. In addition she will receive $2,000 per month, tax-free, for the next 15 years, which will allow her to spend full time raising their children. By the end of the 15th year, she will have received a total of $385,000.

I would be pleased to show you how this exclusive KofC plan can benefit your family. Give me a call. Philip Haluska 404-252-2921 phal1237@aol.com

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Brother Chuck Langgood coordinated this annual event and did a great job. St. Andrews and the Knights responded, and we were able to deliver food baskets making Thanksgiving dinners a reality for some of our neighbors.
